This survey considers the sermon of Jihad in Nahj ul-BalÄghah book by using its speech acts. By considering five speech acts, their direct and indirect meanings and the sermon context, the essay offers some analyses related to the discourse sides. As you know, the Pragmatics researches emphasis on the importance of this point that literal works are affected by two sides of discourse. It is considerable the repetition of indirect meaning is 93% of all speech acts. It is a way of Literators, they don’t speak directly about what is in their mind and choose a way that causes hearer thinking. The survey of sermon speech acts shows that the maximum percent is for expressive acts, it is 58%. According to the context of sermon, Imam Ali is complaining of people of Kufa, because of their neglect, disobedience to his orders, and not participating in Jihad. The last places are for commissive and declarative acts. They haven’t been used in the sermon even one time, because Imam Ali doesn't talk about his commitment to something and also he doesn't want to talk about new situation in the sermon.
